MENOPAUSE AND ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS WOMEN BEWARE/ WHAT YOUR DOCTOR MIGHT NOT KNOW

I wrote my last blog “Natural is Natural” because it is time for everyone to realize that what we put on or in our bodies is so important.  Coming from the cosmetic manufacturing industry, we all used parabens to preserve our products.  But by the late 1990’s a lot of buzz was being spread about the dangers surrounding parabens in skin care as well as color cosmetics. Methylparaben ,ethylparen, propylparaben, and butylparaben were commonly used.  Parabens are synthetic preservatives that are being used in personal care, but also food and pharmaceuticals; allowing for longevity of the product and to meet FDA regulations.

With Breast Cancer Awareness month coming up in October (which is just around the corner), I feel that all women and their doctors should be aware of the potential dangers of using parabens in our daily products.  Parabens can mimic hormones in the body and disrupt functions of the endocrine system (August 16, 2013/Livestrong.com).

A study done by the University of Reading in the UK found small amounts of parabens in human breast tumors.  It was, of course, not determined the cause of the tumors but do you really want to take a chance??

I read an article in the Toronto Star, dated 8/11/14, linking certain hormone replacement therapy and the development of breast cancer.  This has been on ongoing debate for several years.  I, for one, took hormone replacement therapy for 10 years.  I think about that all the time and it worries me.

We were talking to some doctors who had no idea the possible dangers of parabens:  That parabens are xenoestrgens, which mean receptors located within ones cells. 

But most important parabens are NOT derived from natural ingredients.

It is so important for me to make sure that what we put into or on our body comes from the purist of ingredients. 

My little secret: Make sure to read all the ingredients before choosing the best product for yourself.  With such personal items that we distribute at Grohen Technologies, we want to make sure that they meet with the criteria’s we have set forth.
